Food Pantry “I was surprised at how many people are just scraping by in our area, and how many really rely on Pantry donations to feed their families. It feels great to be a part of such a tangible and worthwhile cause.”
The Food Pantry provides non-perishable food items to needy families who live or attend church in Southborough. It is a cooperative effort of The United Parishes of Southborough, of which St. Mark’s is a charter member, and typically serves between 25 and 40 families at any given time. Located at neighboring Pilgrim Church, the Food Pantry is open for two hours a week, from 7-8pm on Tuesdays and 10-11am on Fridays. Staffing for the Pantry is scheduled on a rotating basis amongst the participating churches. Approximately every six weeks, volunteers from St. Mark’s help to check in clients, distribute groceries, and stock items. Volunteers also shop for needed groceries and supplies from cash donations received. Parishioners are encouraged to volunteer for the Food Pantry and/or to regularly donate non-perishable food items. Special needs for the Pantry are printed periodically in the Sunday bulletin. Items may be placed in the marked basket located in St. Mark’s Parish Hall.
